Refugees Pouring into Arizona: COAR Gears up for Great Year

Thanks so much for being patient with us during the last two months; with the transition of staff, a new office and a new school year – COAR is having a hectic, while wonderful, growth spurt.

In the last few months, more than 900 refugees have arrived in Arizona. The majority are from Iraq, Burma and Bhutan.  With our volunteer recruitment in full swing, we’ll soon be working with these families through our Reaching Higher and Volunteer Anchor programs. Our Awareness and Advocacy program is working behind the scenes to make sure more Arizonans know how they can help refugees in our community.

If you are interested in reading more – our latest Fall newsletter is available below.

Also, if you are interested in getting involved, we are in great need of help! Specifically, we have extended our Reaching Higher Scholar deadline to this Friday. If you know of a refugee high school student who could use a helping hand through graduation and prep for college, please send me an email.  kdonley@coarweb.org  I’ll send along the application.  Additionally, we could really use some help with drivers for our Reaching Higher program. The commitment is minimal; the effect is great.

Thanks again for helping us reach our mission of improving the well-being of Arizona’s refugee community. Together, we’re helping these families every day.

Warm regards,
Kelli M. Donley
