Refugee Community Garden

As one of many ways of bringing awareness to issues facing refugees in Phoenix, COAR is collaborating with the International Rescue Committee, the Phoenix Permaculture Guild, the Association of Arizona Food Banks and Asbury United Methodist Church to create a community garden. The land -- donated by Asbury, at 16th Avenue and Indian School in downtown Phoenix -- is currently being gardened by half a dozen families from Burundia and Bhurma. These refugees live in the nearby community and will soon seen the bounty from their harvest.

In addition to a citrus orchard, a microfinance program will add chickens and organic eggs to the garden project in the Fall.
